Whirlpool is in a lot of Vaughan kitchens and laundry rooms, often bought together as a full set. Newer Whirlpool washers, dryers, dishwashers and stoves show an F-and-E code like F9 E1 when something goes wrong. Write the code down, because it points us to the right system before we arrive.

We repair Whirlpool front-load and top-load washers, dryers, fridges, dishwashers, stoves, wall ovens, cooktops, over-the-range microwaves and range hoods. Diagnostic regularly $129, now $99, and always waived when Aria does the repair. You get the price before any work starts, and completed repairs include our 1-Year Parts & Labour Warranty. Refrigerators

Whirlpool Fridge Problems We Fix

We repair Whirlpool fridges, including French-door models, and we rule out the simple causes before anything expensive.

Both Sections Warming Up
Likely cause
Dirty condenser coils, a condenser fan that has stopped, or the start parts or control that run the compressor.
Try this first
Check the fridge is plugged in, the breaker is on and the temperature wasn't turned up by accident. Keep the doors closed.
When to call Aria
We test the fans, coils and start parts first, and the sealed system last. If it's a compressor, you get the price plainly so you can compare it with a new fridge.
Fridge Warm, Freezer Still Cold
Likely cause
Usually the evaporator fan, or frost on the coil from a defrost fault that blocks cold air from reaching the fridge side.
Try this first
Make sure food isn't pushed against the vents at the back, and that both doors close all the way. A fridge thermometer on a middle shelf tells you the real temperature.
When to call Aria
If it's above 4 °C after a day and the freezer is still cold, book a visit. That pattern points us straight to the fan and defrost parts.
Ice Maker Not Making Ice
Likely cause
A frozen fill tube, a failed water inlet valve, or an ice maker that has stopped cycling.
Try this first
Check the ice maker is switched on and the arm or switch isn't in the off position. A water filter that's overdue can slow the water to a trickle, so replace it if it's past six months.
When to call Aria
If ice still won't come after a day with a fresh filter, book a visit.
Water on the Floor or Under the Crispers
Likely cause
A blocked defrost drain or a cracked or loose water line to the dispenser or ice maker.
Try this first
Wipe up the water, check the water filter is fully locked in, and look behind the bottom grille for a drip tray that's overflowing.
When to call Aria
If the water keeps coming back, book a visit. A blocked defrost drain usually needs the back panel off to clear properly.

Good to know

Keep the doors closed while you wait for us, and don't keep switching it off and on.

Most fridge repairs we do land around $120–$550, depending on the part. You get the exact price before any work starts.

Stove & Oven

Whirlpool Stove and Oven Problems We Fix

We repair Whirlpool electric and gas stoves, wall ovens and cooktops, including air fry and steam clean models.

Oven Not Heating or Slow to Preheat
Likely cause
A failed bake or broil element, a weak gas igniter, or the oven temperature sensor. Many newer Whirlpool ovens hide the bake element under the oven floor, so you can't see it glow.
Try this first
Check the breaker, make sure a delay or timed cook isn't set, and try Broil to see if the top element heats. On some models you hold Start for about 3 seconds to unlock the controls.
When to call Aria
If Bake stays cold, or the oven shows F3 E1, book a visit. We test the element, igniter and sensor before replacing anything.
Smooth-Top Element Not Heating
Likely cause
A failed element, its infinite switch, or a control fault on touch-control models.
Try this first
Try the same pot on another element at the same setting to see if it's one element or the whole cooktop. On FlexHeat dual elements, check you've selected the size you want.
When to call Aria
If one element stays dark or won't turn off, book a visit. We test the element and switch first.
Gas Burner Clicks but Won't Light
Likely cause
Usually a wet or misaligned burner cap, or a weak igniter.
Try this first
Once the cooktop is cool, dry the burner cap and base and seat the cap flat.
When to call Aria
If it still won't light, we test the igniter and spark module. If you smell gas, leave it off and call your gas utility first.
Oven Shuts Off or Shows an F Code
Likely cause
A sensor, door lock or control fault, or a keypad issue. On many models F2 E1 points to the keypad or its wiring.
Try this first
Turn the stove off at the breaker for one minute, then try again. Check the cooktop grates are seated level, since a bumped grate can press a key.
When to call Aria
If the code comes back, write it down and book a visit.

Seeing a code? See Whirlpool stove and oven codes

Good to know

Whirlpool wall ovens and cooktops get the same approach: we test the element, igniter, sensor and controls before replacing anything.

Most stove and oven repairs we do land around $130–$350, depending on the part. You get the exact price before any work starts.

Washers

Whirlpool Washer Problems We Fix

We repair Whirlpool front-load washers and top-load washers, including 2-in-1 removable agitator models.

Washer Leaking
Likely cause
On front-loaders, a torn door boot seal, a loose drain pump filter cap or a split internal hose. On top-loaders, often a hose, the pump or the tub seal.
Try this first
Check the drain pump filter cap (front-loaders) is screwed in tight, and look at the fill hoses at the back for drips. Use HE detergent and a little less of it, since too much suds can push water out.
When to call Aria
If water still shows up after a normal load, book a visit. Tell us where the puddle starts, front or back.
Not Draining (F9 E1)
Likely cause
A clogged drain pump filter, a kinked drain hose, or a pump that has failed.
Try this first
On front-loaders, put towels and a shallow tray down, then open the small access door at the bottom front and clean the drain pump filter. Check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe.
When to call Aria
If F9 E1 keeps coming back, the drain pump needs testing.
Not Filling (F8 E1)
Likely cause
Closed or partly closed taps, kinked fill hoses, clogged inlet screens, or a failed water inlet valve.
Try this first
Open both the hot and cold taps all the way and straighten the hoses. Whirlpool doesn't recommend anti-flood devices on the hoses, since they can slow the fill.
When to call Aria
If F8 E1 shows up with both taps fully open, book a visit.
Door or Lid Won't Lock (F5 E2)
Likely cause
Something caught in the door, a worn latch, or a failed door lock.
Try this first
Check nothing is caught in the door or lid and close it firmly. Press Pause/Cancel twice and Power once to clear the code, then restart.
When to call Aria
A worn door lock is a common repair. If the code returns, book a visit.

Seeing a code? See Whirlpool washer codes

Good to know

Leave the door open between loads and run the Clean Washer cycle about once a month. It keeps smells and drain codes down.

Most washer repairs we do land around $150–$350, depending on the part. You get the exact price before any work starts.

Dryers

Whirlpool Dryer Problems We Fix

We repair Whirlpool electric and gas dryers, including stacked units and steam models.

Check Vent Light or Taking Too Long
Likely cause
Restricted airflow, usually lint in the vent duct or a crushed or stuck outside flap. Whirlpool's Check Vent alert is a warning about the vent, not a dryer fault.
Try this first
Clean the lint screen, then check the duct behind the dryer isn't crushed or kinked and the outside flap opens when the dryer runs. Short, straight 4-inch metal duct works best.
When to call Aria
If the vent is clear and loads still take more than one cycle, book a visit. We check the heating parts and the sensors.
Dryer Not Heating
Likely cause
On electric dryers, often a heating element or thermal fuse. On gas dryers, an igniter or gas valve coils. A blown thermal fuse usually means the vent was blocked.
Try this first
Check both breakers for an electric dryer, since one can trip and leave the drum turning with no heat. On gas dryers, check the gas valve behind the dryer is open.
When to call Aria
We test and replace the failed part, and check the vent so it doesn't happen again.
Drum Not Turning or Thumping
Likely cause
A broken drive belt, worn drum rollers or idler pulley, or a failed motor.
Try this first
Check nothing heavy like a shoe or a sock has wedged at the front of the drum, and that the door switch clicks when you close the door.
When to call Aria
If the drum won't turn, or it thumps or squeals, stop using it and book a visit.
Code on the Display (F3 E1 or F3 E2)
Likely cause
F3 E1 points to the exhaust thermistor and F3 E2 to the moisture sensor, which tells the dryer when clothes are dry.
Try this first
Turn the dryer off at the breaker for one minute. For F3 E2, make sure the dryer is level and try a larger load, since small loads may not touch the sensor bars.
When to call Aria
If the code comes back, we test the sensor and its wiring.

Good to know

Stacked and laundry-closet dryers: the duct connection is hard to see, so check it wasn't crushed when the dryer was pushed back.

Most dryer repairs we do land around $130–$320, depending on the part. You get the exact price before any work starts.

Dishwashers

Whirlpool Dishwasher Problems We Fix

We repair Whirlpool built-in dishwashers, including top-control and front-control models with a third rack.

Not Draining (F9 E1)
Likely cause
A clogged filter, a kinked drain hose, a new disposal's knockout plug, or a drain pump that has failed.
Try this first
Twist out and rinse the filter in the bottom of the tub, check the drain hose under the sink for kinks, and run the disposal before you start a cycle.
When to call Aria
If water still sits in the bottom, the drain pump needs testing.
Dishes Not Getting Clean
Likely cause
A dirty filter, blocked spray arms, low water temperature, or a wash pump that's weak.
Try this first
Clean the filter about once a month, check the spray arms spin freely, and run the kitchen tap until it's hot before starting.
When to call Aria
If dishes still come out gritty with a clean filter, book a visit.
Water Under the Dishwasher (F8 E4)
Likely cause
Water has reached the base pan, from a loose fill line, a door gasket or too much suds.
Try this first
Use only dishwasher detergent, never dish soap. Check the door closes evenly and nothing is caught on the gasket.
When to call Aria
Switch it off and book a check, since the source of the water needs finding.
Not Drying
Likely cause
Plastics that don't hold heat, an empty rinse aid dispenser, or a failed heating element or vent on heated-dry models.
Try this first
Top up the rinse aid and use the heated-dry or extra-dry option if your model has it.
When to call Aria
If metal and glass dishes come out wet too, the heating element or the vent needs testing.

Microwaves · Range hoods

Whirlpool Microwave and Range Hood Problems We Fix

We repair Whirlpool over-the-range microwaves, including low-profile microwave hood combinations, and Whirlpool range hoods.

Vent Not Clearing Smoke
Likely cause
Grease filters clogged under the microwave or hood, a stuck damper, or an old charcoal filter on a recirculating setup.
Try this first
Pull out the metal grease filters and soak them in hot soapy water. Replace the charcoal filter if your microwave or hood recirculates.
When to call Aria
If the fan sounds weak with clean filters, book a visit to check the motor and damper.
Microwave Runs but Doesn't Heat
Likely cause
A failed high-voltage diode, capacitor, magnetron or door switch.
Try this first
Make sure the door closes firmly and try heating a cup of water for one minute. If the light, fan and turntable work but the water stays cold, stop using it.
When to call Aria
Microwaves hold a charge even when unplugged, so please don't open the cover. Book a visit and we test it safely.
Microwave Dead or Display Blank
Likely cause
A tripped breaker, a blown internal fuse, or a door switch that has failed.
Try this first
Check the breaker and try resetting it once.
When to call Aria
If it's still dead, a door switch is often the cause, and we test it before replacing anything.
Vent Fan or Light Not Working
Likely cause
A failed fan motor, a blown bulb or LED, or the control board.
Try this first
Clean or replace the grease filters under the microwave or hood, and try the fan on every speed.
When to call Aria
If the fan stays silent or the light won't come on with a new bulb, book a visit.

Our 2 year old Electrolux washing machine started glitching and would stop and display several error codes during the drain cycle (full of water and wet clothes). I called Electrolux and their technician determined that the drain pump needed to be replaced, but it would have taken about a week for them to receive the part and come back to install it.

We decided to call Joe at Aria Appliance Repair after a friend recommended him. Joe came out, tested the pump, got the washer to drain and found that the pump was actually working. He spent more time testing the machine and eventually determined that the main control board was the problem. He came back the next day with the new board, installed it, and tested the washer twice to make sure everything was working properly.

I've since run several loads with no issues. We were really impressed with Joe's knowledge and troubleshooting. He was able to properly diagnose the problem when the manufactures technician had misdiagnosed it. Definitely recommend Joe and Aria Appliance Repair.

What does F9 E1 mean on my Whirlpool washer?
On many models, F9 E1 means the washer is taking too long to drain. Turn it off, put towels and a shallow tray down, and clean the drain pump filter behind the small door at the bottom front. Check that the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe. If F9 E1 keeps coming back, the drain pump needs testing.
What do F8 E1 and F5 E2 mean on a Whirlpool washer?
On many models, F8 E1 means the washer isn't getting enough water, so open both taps fully and check the hoses for kinks. F5 E2 means the door or lid isn't locking, so check nothing is caught and close it firmly. Press Pause/Cancel twice and Power once to clear the code. If either keeps coming back, book a visit.
Why is my Whirlpool washer leaking?
On front-loaders, the usual causes are a torn door boot seal, a loose drain pump filter cap or a split internal hose. On top-loaders, it's often a hose, the pump or the tub seal. Too much detergent can also push suds out. Tell us where the puddle starts when you book, because it helps us plan the visit.
What does the Check Vent light mean on my Whirlpool dryer?
It means the dryer is sensing restricted airflow, usually lint in the vent duct or a crushed duct behind the dryer. It's a warning about the vent, not a dryer fault. Clean the lint screen, check the duct and make sure the outside flap opens. If the vent is long or hard to reach, a vent cleaning company is the right call.
Why is my Whirlpool dryer not heating?
On electric dryers, it's often a heating element or thermal fuse, and on gas dryers an igniter or gas valve coils. First check both breakers on an electric dryer, since one can trip and leave the drum turning with no heat. A blown thermal fuse usually means the vent was blocked, so we check the vent as part of the repair.
What do F3 E1 and F2 E1 mean on a Whirlpool stove?
On many models, F3 E1 points to the oven temperature sensor or its wiring, and F2 E1 to the keypad or control. Turn the stove off at the breaker for one minute and try again. For F2 E1, check the cooktop grates are seated level. If either code comes back, write it down and book a visit.
Why is my Whirlpool fridge warm but the freezer is cold?
Usually the evaporator fan has stopped, or frost from a defrost fault is blocking the air that cools the fridge side. Make sure food isn't blocking the vents and the doors close fully. If the fridge stays above 4 °C after a day, book a visit. We fix the defrost cause, not just the ice.
What does F9 E1 mean on a Whirlpool dishwasher?
On many models, F9 E1 means the dishwasher is taking too long to drain. Twist out and rinse the filter, check the drain hose under the sink for kinks, and make sure a new disposal's knockout plug was removed. If water still sits in the bottom, the drain pump needs testing.
Is it worth repairing a Whirlpool appliance?
Most Whirlpool repairs are a single part: a drain pump, a door lock, a heating element, a fuse, a fan or an igniter, and those are usually worth fixing. A simple rule: if the repair costs less than about half of a comparable new appliance, repair it. The bigger calls are sealed-system fridge work or a main control board. We price it first, so you decide.
